An Introduction
to the Student Apprenticeship
|
|
Student Apprenticeships, a local initiative to
address skill shortages, were piloted five years ago by Walsall
TEC and latterly have been adopted by Western Training and Enterprise
(WESTEC), Bristol, and also on a smaller scale by Birmingham TEC.
By spending one day a week with a company, students aged 16 to 19
have the opportunity to test out their career choice and gain real
life working experience. The Student Apprenticeship provides a strong
and structured approach to the vocational A level by linking it
with an employer involved in Modern Apprenticeships.
The booklet demonstrates good practice. For details contact DfEE,
Young People’s Policy Division by e-mail to carol.proctor@dfee.gov.uk

Mobile phones,
base stations and schools - Outcome of the consultation on Telecommunications
Mast Development
www.press.detr.gov.uk/0103/0142.htm
www.dfee.gov.uk/a-z/mobilephones.html
|
|
The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR)
has announced changes to be made to the planning rules for telecommunications
mast development. These will
·
strengthen public consultation requirements on
mast proposals of 15 metres and below so that they are exactly the
same as applications for planning permission
·
increase the time for authorities to deal with
prior approval applications to 56 days
·
underlining that governors must be
consulted on all proposals for new masts on or near a school or
college.
·
increase fees to enable authorities
to carry out full public consultation.
·
maintain in full an authority's ability
to reject applications on amenity grounds.
Changes to legislation will be required and DETR will issue guidance
to Local Planning Authorities at the earliest opportunity. Enquiries
to DETR, telephone 020 7944 3000 (Public Enquiry point).

School Lookup
Table to help with data transfer
|
|
The software upgrades for Management Information
Systems this month give the facility to support electronic transfer
of pupil data when children move schools. Either your software supplier
or LEA support team will send you the update.
A new table on the on the EASEA web site www.easea.co.uk/.
makes it easy to find the LEA and school number of any school in
England. You need these numbers to complete the common transfer
form when a child moves school. The table helps you find any school
by entering the town or LEA and the school name. It is straightforward
to use. For example: entering 'paul' gives school in the LEA or
town with the letters 'paul' such as: St Paul's Junior, St Paul's
Infants, John Paul School etc.
N.B. if you use
'mary' you will get every school that has 'primary' in its name
so enter 'st mary' .
The table includes address and telephone number
so that if you lack the exact school details you can identify a
shortlist of possible schools to contact.
