Adobe PhotoshopMake sure Photoshop is loaded and set up as shown.
If you do not have all the pallets switch them on
using the window show commands.
Exercise 1. Produce a Poster Features covered: Gradients / Selecting / Layers / Transform / Text / Effects Saving the file. 6 Steps:
Step 1. Create a new file From Command menu choose File>New. Enter the following settings. It will be 648k. A small rectangular image with a white background is produced.
Step 2. Produce a background We want to produce a blue effect background. Make sure the new file is in RGB mode. It will allow us to use colour. Choose Image>Mode>RGB.
Use the Gradient tool. Choose the Linear Gradient Tool from the Toolbox:
Choose the Colour Picker from the Toolbox:
Click on the foreground icon and choose a dark blue – click ok: Click on the background icon and choose a light blue – click ok:
Place the pointer in the bottom right hand corner of the rectangle and drag it to the top left hand corner. This will produce a blue graded background: Note: The blue background layer is now in the Layer Palette.
You can try other fills by holding your finger down on the Fill Tool.
Use the Marquee Tool Choose the rectangular Marquee Tool from the Toolbox:
Draw a rectangle that covers about a third of the image:
Duplicate the Image Choose Layer>Duplicate Layer – click ok.
Notice that an extra layer is created.
Use Linear Gradient Tool Choose the Linear Gradient Tool. Drag the pointer from the top of the rectangle to the bottom.
Choose Select>Deselect. Step 3. Add an image and move it Open an Image Choose File>Open>horn. This is an image of a horn. It has a file size of 173k.
Use the Magic Wand Tool Choose the Magic Wand Tool from the Toolbox:
Click on the white background.
Choose Select>Similar
Choose Select>Inverse.
Use the Move Tool Choose the Move Tool from the Toolbox. Move the pointer over the palette, click and drag the image onto the blue background image. Notice that a new layer has been created. .
Note: If you want to ‘transform’ image, choose Edit>Free Transform
Now you can rotate and move the horn
Change Opacity Change opacity by changing the value from 100% to 80%.
Save a copy Choose File>Save a copy as: mywork
Step 4. Apply Text Use Text Tool Choose Text Tool from the Toolbox:
Move the pointer over the image and click. The Type Tool Window appears. Enter the text settings – click ok. Note: Another layer appears (T), a text layer.
Choose the Move Tool to move the text. You must have the correct layer selected (the one with the brush)
Choose the Text Tool and type ‘Art Department’, this time choosing a font size of 50 – click OK. Choose the Move Tool and move the text.
Remember you can change the colour of text or even individual letters at any time. Click on the layer. Highlight the text you want to change.
Select a colour.
Step 5. Edit the Text Using Effects Choose Layer>Effects>Outer Glow
Enter the following settings – click OK.
You can also paint with the paintbrush
You can select different paintbrushes from the palette. Select the Brushes Palette. Even textures can be used by scrolling down the Brushes Palette.
The airbrush option opens up another palette to
set size of spray and fade.
Step 6. Flatten and Save the Image Note: We now have 5 layers. We can save the image with or without layers. With layers – Choose File>Save copy as (don’t click the Flatten Image box). Without layers – Choose Layer>Flatten Image. Then File>Save. Note: It is possible to save the image in many different formats. Exercise 2. Produce a Painting from a Photograph Features covered: Modes / Selecting / Layers / Filters / Text / Saving the file. 6 Steps:
Step 1. Open a File (photograph) From Command menu choose File>Open sydney.tif
Step 2. Prepare the Image Change Mode Since we want to duplicate layers we can change it to RGB mode. Choose Image>Mode>RGB Duplicate it Choose Layer>Duplicate Layer. Click ok. Increase brightness Choose Image>Adjust>Levels.
Drag the left hand slider triangle to the right and the right hand slider to the left. Adjust Colour Saturation: Choose Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation.
We can add more colour by moving the Saturation slider triangle to the right. Try a value of +50. Click ok. Let’s remove part of the flag in the picture. Select
the rubber stamp tool.
Hold down the Alt key and click the left mouse with the pointer to the right of the flag. Simply paint out the flag.
Click on Filter>Artistic>Coloured pencil
Change the pencil width, stroke pressure and paper brightness. You will see the changes in the preview window.
You can undo any stage using the History palette.
You can increase the size of the picture using the navigator First maximise the view area using the top left hand corner of the picture.
Now use the slider to increase the picture size. Step 3. Produce Atmosphere Duplicate the layer Choose Layer>Duplicate. Click ok. Click on the Transition Tool from the Toolbox. Change foreground colour to a light blue. Change the background colour to a slightly darker blue. Drag the pointer from the bottom to the top of the screen. Change Opacity Adjust the opacity to 50%.
Change the lighting from Normal to Hard Light in the Layers palette. Notice that the scene has changed in character.
Merge Down If you are happy with the effect, merge the top two layers. Click on the arrow head on the right of the Layers palette. There are now only two layers. Step 4. Apply Other FiltersFilters There are many different filters to apply. The outcome is limited only by your creativity and imagination. Let’s try 3.
Choose Filter>Artistic>Dry Brush. Try the following setting. Click ok.
Choose Filter>Brush Strokes>Crosshatch. Try the following settings. Click ok.
Choose Filter>Brush Strokes>Sprayed Strokes. Try the following settings. Click ok. Step 5. Add a BorderChoose Select>Select All. Change the foreground colour to light blue: Choose Edit>Stroke and enter the following settings: Width 16.
Choose Select>Deselect. Step 6: Taking pictures from the InternetFind the picture you want. http://www.lshop.co.uk Right mouse click. Select save picture as.
Type in a name. Save
Open Photoshop and load the picture.
Work on it as before. .
