Art Movements
Da Da On-Line

Chronic on Expressionisn
The Expressionists revolted against these "guidelines" for art, instead placing emphasis on the personal creative process and themes that express the inner workings of the human soul. Expressionism is far less a stylistic movement than a way of perceiving reality through art. Instead of realism, these artists concerned themselves capturing emotion.

With the emphasis placed on this perception of human emotion, traditional painting technique and canvas were discarded for other forms. Woodcuts became an essential element, able to both be mass produced and illustrate haunting renderings.
